There already turned up first books in Władysław Łokietek's times, probably they used to liturgical aims. Since prince Władysław Opolczyk has set up the order of St. Paul the Hermit, there appears bigger amount of books, but they are mainly transported from Cracow and Warsaw.
Mikołaj z Wilkowiecka zthe friar staying in Jasna Góra clastor has written the first known Polish misterium "Historyja o chwalebnym Zmartwychwstaniu Pańskim", which has been published in Cracow.
The Swedish siege (1655) described a defender and first bibliophil of Jasna Gora, the Prior Augustyn Kordecki in his work "Nova Gigantomania".
This event (the "Swedish Deluge") described alse polish anonymous poem: "Siege of Jasna Gora" which was recognized as W. Odymalski's work and latin poem "Obsidio Clari Montis " written by S. Kobierzynski.
Establishing a press in Jasna Gora caused printing in this place prayer-books, rotive pictures, religious panegyrie, polemics, moralities, pictures of Our Lady and other Saints.
In 1795 Paulitis established their own paper mill and printing shopa and they printed books on special paper signed by pictureof Our Lady.
The secular poem "Częstochowa" written by Grzegorz from Sambor in 1658 started writing borogue's poems. Later there were many writers eg. Jan Chryzostom Pasek with his "Dairys", S. Twardowski w "Civil War", A. Mickiewicz w "Panu Tadeusz", who mentioned in their works our city.
In XVIII many occasional poems was written.
The citizens passed on verbal, telling fairy tales, legends and parables..
