The town of ¦więta Anna is situated in the east of Częstochowa and it is known for the sanctuary estabilished at the convent of Dominican Nuns.

It is said that more than 600 hundred years ago on these marshy areas a shepard, watching his folk, had a revelelation. He saw three persons: a figure with a baby in the hands and a woman who was standing nearby, and he knew the woman was st.Anna. The revelation was accompanied by several miracles - ill people regained their health.
As similar visions started to occur over and over again the inhabitants of the area raised a figure of Crusified Jezus in the place of the revelations and soon they built st. Anna's Chapel where her figure was placed. Though people claim the figure was found in the place of the revelations there is also another version of the legend which says that it had been carved by the shepard himself. The sculpture shows st. Anna holding Mother of God and Jezus in her arms. Pilgrims, attracted by the fame of the figure's grace, have been coming to the place since a long time ago. Through Jezus' grandmother grandparent's ask for mercy for their grandchildren and married couples ask for the gift of having babies. The Dominican nuns explain that st.Anna generously gives her grace taking family relations into consideration.
However, the baroque church and monastery were not built for the nuns - they were raised by bernardine monks. That is why one of the chaples is devoted to saint Francis. The church, crowned with two cupolas and a tower, was built between 1609 and 1617 and the monastery was finished in 1668.
