Folk art may be classified as decorative and applied art. In houses we can find many examples of artistic craft such as furniture, house appliances, decorations, bed covers and embroidered table cloths and tapestry.
Oskar Kolberg describes how weaving craft looked like 100 years ago.

Stanisława Dejneka from Brzeźno is one of few people who can weave colourful carpets using spinning wheel. At present she gives lessons how to weave and tells about customs and housework in the past.

Teresa Lewińska (Librarian at the nearby primary school) is a keen embroiderer. She started her hobby embroidering handkerchief, then pillows and her children’s clothes and toys. Now she decorates table cloths and pillows.
It makes her relaxed and happy, as she is saying.

Handmade baskets are commonly used on farms. They are made by Eugeniusz Romaniuk. He was born in 1931 in Brzeźno. He married to Czesława, they have four sons and nine grandsons. He worked as a railway-man. Now he is retired and in his spare time he likes to weave baskets. It was his father who taught him how to do it. It takes him about 6 hours to make one basket.

Krystyna Tworek makes baskets and cups, too. She works as a caretaker in our school. To weave baskets she uses a special method (taught by Genowefa Derkacz). Mrs. Tworek belongs to Koło Gospodyń Wiejskich in Wólka Okopska and is one of founders of folk band  „Cykady”. Her works are often exposed to people in Chełmski Dom Kultury.

Among other folk creators, Józef Chmiel is worth mentioning. He is one of the oldest inhabitants of Brzeźno (born in 1906). He makes wooden furniture like wardrobes. His sister, Izabela Balik decorated Easter eggs. This skill was passed on her grandson Arkadiusz Prystupa and granddaughter Ewa Szymczuk.

Bartłomiej Pliszko is the man who made crèche, which is always shown during Christmas time in church in Brzeźno. The creche usually stays next to the sculpture of St. Nepomucen, made by Charyton Naumowicz 100 years ago. St. Nepomucen used to bless all travellers by standing next to the road shrine.
