History and culture of Ziemia Chełmińska

Ziemia Chełmińska lies in the arc of Wisła between its right, east, side, Drwęca in the south and Osa to its estuary in the north. In the middle ages there was a Teutonic country on this areas and there was a complex web of villages. This is one of the reasons why Ziemia Chełmińska is the richest region in monument in kujawsko-pomorskie province Ziemia Chełmińska is on the areas which belong to seven counties (three whole counties and the pewts of four other).

Those grounds belonged to the Piasts. After the district crashed they went into Princes of Mazowsze hands and since 1228 they belonged to The Knights of Teutonic Order. The Knights of Teutonic Order had to support the Christianizing action of the Prussians and protect Polish borders from the invasion of pagan tribes. The Order made on Ziemia Chelmińska its own country and make a lot of new towns.
