         On 16th April we went to Łopatki- a village near Wąbrzeźno. We made a few photos of the massive grave.
         Łopatki lies in west side of Książki district in Wąbrzeźno county. The village existed in 1222 already. Parish was made in Teutonic times and it came from the parish of Wąbrzeźno. The other names of the village were: Kiesenlingswalde, Kesseling, Kezenlingswalde, Keseligeswaldt. The name „Łopatki” became to exist in 1562. It comes from wood shovels- paddles which were given to the princes' court by the people.
         Today Łopatki lies on the area of 1.339.21 ha. Data from 21.09.2004 says that there 500 inhabitants live. They are the farmers mainly
         Łopatki is a place of the biggest massacre that the Germans had done on Polish people from Wąbrzeźno county too. The place of killing the Polish people lied by the road from Łopatki to Szczuplinki. The executions killed about 200- 2500 people. It's hard to write precise date, because the Germans destroyed corpses. Today the place of the massacre is symbolized by the monument. There are some monuments in Łopatki, for example the parish church, elements of old school and a court with the park with two monuments of the nature.
