On 15th January we met Mr. Piotr Kobielarz, a very nice inhabitant of Wąbrzeźno from the neighbourhood of Tomaszów Lubelski. He told us his war story.
Mr. Piotr come from the east-south part of our country, he had six siblings. He met his first wife in Kołobrzeg, they had a son. When she started to be sick, she wanted to come to Wąbrzeźno. That's why Mr. Piotr live in our town. After his first wife dead, he got married the second time. The second wife brought up his first son and two another sons. They have their families now. Mr. Piotr live in Wąbrzeźno now and in June he will be 85 years old. |

When the war started Mr. Piotr was 17- in 1939 there were 4 brothers in army already. Mr. Piotr was too young to go to the army, so he register himself to school of the cadets. He would go there after the primary school, but he had an accident. During having a walk in a forest, he had been bitten by a snake. He was treated for a long time and he couldn't continue his education in the school of cadets, so he went to learn how to be a tailor. Before the war he graduated PWiWF- friends encouraged him to get there, because there were many trips- even to Gdynia. |

Mr. Piotr told us, how much did our region suffer during the second world war. Here was so-called V German Column. Many Germans lived here. They had their own organization, which had to be secret, but in the end everybody knew about it- Polish government and local Polish people. However everyone was scared to "move" the Germans to not provocate the war. In the end the Germans provocated that war. In one of Polish cities they dressed the prisoners in Polish uniforms and attacked German railway station. After that they told to all world that Polish people did it.
On the south part of our country German and after 17th September 1939 Russian army too stayed. After two weeks of staying, Russian army went some far, German army too. For 24 hours armies were 50 km far from each other. After the Germans' return on that border, there was an order to give all military equipment. People, who wouldn't give their equipment, would be killed. Mr. Piotr hid everything to small wood box and hid in the forest. |

Franek, one of the brothers, went from the hospital with help of a nurse. Later he came back home. After some time commander came to him. Then Mr. Piotr promised that he will be a soldier.
While he was a soldier, he had a Jewish friend- Poper. He made good action in which even his commander didn't believe. He sewed an uniform for one German soldier too. History of Mr. Piotr is very interesting, but we couldn't record everything and we couldn't write about everything because of equipment's failure. |
